Congratulations to Rachel Merrill Moss, Doctoral Candidate in the Interdisciplinary Program in Theatre and Drama and a graduate student in the Jewish Studies Cluster, who has been named a Fulbright award finalist for 2018-19. Rachel will be based in Warsaw next year researching performances of Jewishness in Poland over the past century and how altering modes of performance can be brought into conversation with Polish national identity. The archival case studies she will be researching during the Fulbright year include the Yiddish and Polish versions of The Dybbuk (1920/1925), The Tempest (Shturem/Burza) in 1939, and Julius un Etel/Juliusz i Ethel in 1954.

Tova Markenson, Doctoral Candidate in the Interdisciplinary Program in Theatre and Drama has been named a recipient of a summer funding award from the American Academy for Jewish Research to support work on her dissertation Entrance Forbidden to the Yiddish Theatres: Performance, Protest, and Prostitution in Latin America (1900-1939)
